wet felt, leaves and another paper bowl

I spent some time at the Creativ Festival (large stitch and crafting type show) a couple of weeks back and was absolutely facinated by a demo from one of the Swarovski Ambassadors, Pat Reisenburger. Pat had some fabulous samples to show, including felted flowers and crystal cabochons that she had felted into pendants and cuff bracelets. Well, I didn't have any crystals, but did have Ice Resin cabs that I had made and forgot to post about. A day or so after the show, I broke out the box of wool rovings and had a go at Pat's techniques. It was a lot of fun and I'm quite happy with the results. If you're interested in learning more, please click on the link above and check out Pat's blog. She has some great video tutorials! My first photo shows three different pieces. The felted flower, felted cabochon and I've thrown in a bead embroidered piece for good measure.
I have absolutely no idea what I'll do with the felted pieces, but the bead embroidered one is a class sample. Any ideas?
Of course I couldn't stay away from paper bowls for long!! As the last couple of bowls I made were a little flimsy, I decided to toughen this one up with crepe paper, dried leaves, vintage tulle and old book pages. I was trying very hard to make an all white one (except for the leaves), but thought it was a little flat, so added some watered down, Golden Interference paint in Gold. I simply love the result! Do you? More bowls, beads and felt to come........I've even been thinking about, 'gasp', taking out the machine and stitching a little something. Perhaps if I close my eyes, the urge will go away. LOL!

Flower and cab could be brooches, on a winter coat....

And the bowl is lovely!!!

I'm wondering if there was any way you could incorporate the felt technique into your bowls? Perhaps in the bottom? I can also see them as decorations - perhaps for Christmas? Or as brooches...either pinned on a coat or onto a handmade bag? I do love your bowls - I always have the thought 'ethereal' in mind when I see one.

Oh and I wanted to add (but getting to the comment on the tablet made it fly right out of my head!)
The urge will NOT go away (even if you close your eyes), the urge comes from inside!!!!!

Beth and MA, thanks!

I agree about the brooches, but think that the flower might be a little large (for me, perhaps). My friend Deb suggested that it might be nice on a woolen hat! Of course i don't own a suitable one and am not likely too, either (not a hat person).

MA, the bowl idea is interesting, but only if Imake smaller ones. I also thought about attaching it to a fabric purse.

Beth, LOL! I wondered why you hadn't commented on that bit! I realize that it's "inside", but there's sooo much in there right now that it's a real challenge to pick just a few. I expect that I'll get around to it eventually.

LOL Go with the feelings...sew away! I love the felt pieces and your beautiful bowls. You could always give up sleeping and just create! ;o)

I did a felted cab like that as part of a felted bracelet (which I never finished...) I wonder if each of them couldn't be worked into some sort of cuff.

Thanks Linda and Sue!

Linda, I'm not sure that I could ever give up sleep for sewing. That would be too dangerous and I'd probably sew through one of my fingers. Oops!

Sue, a cuff is a definite possibility but perhaps not with these ones. I think that I'd like to use smaller cabs.

Yes, YES, YES... the interference paint is PERFECT, BEAUTIFUL!!!! Oh yes, it is! Probably not how you want to do every bowl, but for this one, it's perfect. How big is this bowl? Do you sell them?

Your felt work with the lovely combination of beads and French (or Colonial) knots is lovely too (of course)!

I love your art...
your fan!

Thanks again, Robin! The interference paint gives just a hint of colour but I only add paint if the piece asks for it. I love the gold because it's so subtle. I do intend to eventually sell some of my work (bowls included) but haven't yet set up any way to do it. This particular bowl is 5" wide and 4" high. Perfect for holding special collections!
