a terrible beauty

At times I've felt that I'm in the middle of an Ansel Adams photograph!!!! I'm incredibly lucky that my power was only off for around 30 hours. Internet/cable and full cell service, back on at around 6 am today. Many homes and businesses are still without!! As hard as I try, I cannot properly capture the fierce beauty that surrounds us right now! A few photos of the last couple of days taken either on my old Canon PowerShot G6 or my iPhone:

So glad to hear that you're okay! Mother Nature sure knows how to make things interesting, doesn't she? Beautiful picture taking opportunities anyway. Have a happy Christmas and stay safe and warm.

Anne Marie what time of day were these photos taken? probably any time i know but i can't get over the low light, it's like they're all taken at dusk or just after but i'm sure some were taken at midday. Amazing, very beautiful but how could anything survive?

Very beautiful images ...
can feel the immediacy of power-outs and nature ruling all that happens.

I'm glad to hear that your power has been restored. Your images are beautiful but tell a very chilly tale.

WoW a real ice coating. Love the berry snow globe and the sun behind the tree. Looks like you had about 1/2 inch of ice.

Thanks, everyone!

MA, she sure does!!

Kaite, all different times of the day and with two different cameras. It was quite overcast on the day after the storm. However, if you look at the stop sign photo, the sky was blue.

Sweetpea (aka Christi), Mother Nature just has to reach out and touch us every once and a while, just to remind us of the fact that she's there, and of her power. Perhaps it's our penance for all the other good things she has to offer.

Maggie, I'm glad too, but still sorry for some of my friends that are still out. Mother Nature is the great equilizer, though! She doesn't really care about how large your house is, which neighbourhood it's in or what type of car you have. When those wires and limbs come down, they come down!!

Beth, if you mean the first and second photos, they're my favourites as well! The one with the sun high in the sky, was taken with my iPhone 5C, set on HDR. I love the effect. There's another one later. On, with just the top of the tree glowing in the twilight. It was amazing to look at, but I just couldn't properly capture what I saw.

Oh goodness, you DID have the ICE... how frightening to see the flowers and plants encased in ice. Great pictures though. Hope the rest of the winter offers a little less in the ice department.
