bjp 1213 - icy cold

As 2013 comes to a close, so does my leaf series for the same year. Oh, don't worry, I'm not done with the leaves yet, and may continue them in 2014 (after all, I only made three). But perhaps not formally, or should I say solely as the BJP. December was cold, we had snow and we had ice.....boy did we have ice! I'd like to say that the colour scheme was a result of said cold, but really, it was mainly influenced by the focal cabochon I had chosen. Well, did I really choose it, or did it choose me as a result of the weather? Who knows? Who ever knows? Do I sound slightly wacky?
I love this blue!!! I made the cab in an Ice Resin class at BeadFX in Toronto (taught by Malliga Nathan). You'll probably be seeing more of these cabs in the future, as I made tons and have plans for making more in 2014. A few more detail shots and then the big reveal!
The regular posse of stitches, including back, peyote, stacked, fringe, flower and boucle/bocce. Interesting bits include vintage and not so vintage buttons, old key, broken cufflink from the family button box, component from a deconstructed necklace and a little tiny puzzle piece (that you can hardly see, because I covered most of it up). Now onwards and upwards!!! I wish you all a happy and healthy and creative 2014!

It's beautiful. Love the cab...if you have an extra in orange, send it my way and I'll create a masterpiece ;p

Beautiful work, it just keeps getting more interesting. the crackle green glass background really added a touch of authenticity, frozen ice.

Wow, that cab is fabulous, especially the little gold balls at the top. I'm so curious about the process. Does it feel plasticy? It has the depth of glass.

Well, of course, you have surrounded it with the usual, wonderful AMD well-chosen, well-placed goodies! I love it.

Happy, happy new year.... I'm so happy that you're actively part of the BJP again!

Judy, Kaite and Robin, thank you so much for your lovely comments!

Judy, ice is not my favourite right now either, but it does make for some pretty facinating photographic opportunities.

Kaite, trying to keep topping myself is getting increasingly complex. I do enjoy these pieces, though. Shhh, don't tell, but the green crackle is a shushi plate. I love the colour and texture and use it a lot for backgrounds.

Robin, it's Ice Resin (two part jewelry grade resin), not plastic and although lighter than glass, still feels quite nice in your hands as it's quite glossy and smooth. The resin is clear and in this case I mixed two separate batches up with mica powder and then poured the two different colours into the form, dropping in a few micro beads for added texture. The mica powder was the instructor's idea, the micro beads, mine. Of course I couldn't help ad libbing just a little. LOL!

Wow Wow Wow... love it!!! ALL OF IT!!! So, are you going to continue the leaves into 2014 or choose a new shape?

Anne Marie - Toronto said...

Thanks, Beth! Perhaps a new shape, but then again, perhaps both! I have ideas, but only time will tell. LOL!
