A little colour to brighten a rainy day

Retro pieces from my collection:

1. "Georgia On My Mind" This one is a combination of strata piecing, wool roving and silk on watersoluble stabilizer, painted and heat distressed tyvek, steel wire, beading, free motion machine embroidery and quilting, hand embroidery. The large flower has been raised from the surface in selected areas.

2. "Fusion" - One of my first exhibition pieces and one of my favourites. A combination of wet felting, free motion machine embroidery and quilting, hand embroidery, machine wrapped braid, beading and copper wire. The background is a rich hand crushed velvet from a thrift store find. The velvet is much brighter than it shows. It just doesn't photograph all that well.

Both pieces were photographed by Marianne Reitsma.

the top one has always been my favourite of your work!

Yum! I really like both of these pieces and had to 'embiggen' the pictures so I could see the detail better. Lovely!

Ahhh! Three comments from three EC alumnai. Thanks!

Kaite, I promise a tut, but you might to wait a little while. I haven't been doing much of this type of work for a while, but I do love it.

Arlee, there was a certain joy in the making of this piece and I expect that's the reason that people respond to it so well. It's currently hanging in my living room, as is the other piece.

MA, if you play your cards right, you could even hold and touch the pieces. LOL!

both lovely, but I'm drawn to the bottom one, Fusion. The circles remind me of crosscuts of timber which is dissonant with the pink and velvet. Intriguing...

Thanks, Rachel! Perhaps the timber part was subliminal. I grew up on the west coast and my father worked in and around lumber mills. If I close my eyes, I can still remember the smell of the cedar dust. Besides, I just love spirals!

How funny that I viewed this again 3 years later...because it was linked to your recent post...and now I prefer the top piece!! both are great of course. I think you should branch out to selling your work somewhere, some how...
